The following is a resume of the work done on waste detection and prevention on the island subsequent to that des- cribed in the report on this subject dated 11th May 1937.

The saving in these four areas is therefore about 55,000
gallons per 24 hours. The expenditure incurred in making this saving was
about $2,300.

Area (a) was selected as being a typical old "Rider Main" area, and it was desired to find out what special difficulties existed in such areas. It soon became evident that while the majority of the inside services are connected to the old "Rider-mains", or sub-mains as they are now called, quite a few are directly connected to the mains, and no record of the number and position of such connections is available. It was therefore impossible to carry out any tests on the mains until
